The map screen is Snikkr's main screen. You start here, and will always come back here. It shows you where you are, and where your friends, events and favorites are, among other things. You use the map screen menu to perform actions, like getting directions and local search, and to go to other screens, like Friends and Favorites.

If Snikkr does not have a precise fix on you, a transparent orange circle will be drawn around you, representing the accuracy of the current fix.

The map displays lots of interesting things. When an item is in the center of the screen (or when you tap on the item on touchscreen devices), it is considered the "target" of any menu command, and it will display a red circle as a hilight. Also, Snikkr displays information about the current target in the information panel at the bottom of the screen. This info usually includes an icon or headshot, the name of the item, its address, distance from you, and relevant status information. Touchscreen users can click on this info to nring up the context menu (usually a little easier than clicking on the target's icon on the map). Touchscreen users can also swipe the info right and left to navigate between items.

Friends. Your friends are displayed as colored circles with black centers, or as headshots, when you are zoomed in enough. Dark green is for friends, while you are represented by an aqua circle.
Favorites. Favorites are displayed as yellow stars (for your favorites), or brownish-gold stars (for favorites shared with you by friends). Temporary favorites added to your list from the calendar are displayed as small calendar icons. Favorites added from addresses in your contact list are displaued as small houses.
Search Results. Search results are displayed as small blue "information" icons.
Directions. Directions are displayed as solid blue line. As you navigate each step of the directions (pressing 7 and 9 on the keypad), orange circles will hilight the start and end of the step you are currently looking at.

The map screen has a lot of menu items. On touchscreen devices, some of these are also represented as icons at the top or sides of the map.

Details. Displays the details for the target item, if it has any.

Zoom In. Zooms into the map.
Zoom Out. Zooms out of the map.

Directions to Here. (Context menu only) Gets directions from your current location to the target.
ETA to Here. (Context menu only) Gets the ETA from your current location to the target.
Make Favorite.... Brings up the Make Favorite dialog to let you create a favorite at the current location.
Create Event Here. (Context menu only) Will create a new BlackBerry event at the target location.

Locate Me. Centers the map on your current location.

Call. Calls the target on the phone. Only displayed if target has phone number.
Text.... Brings up an empty text message addressed to the target. Only displayed if target has phone number.
Web. Links to the target's web pages. Only shows up for search results that have web sites.

Update My Status.... Brings up the status update dialog, where you can update you status. If you have set up the Twitter conduit, your status updates will be forwarded to your Twitter account.
Friends. Brings up the friends list.
Favorites. Brings up the favorites list.

Search.... Brings up the local search dialog, which allows you to search for nearby businesses by name (e.g. "Starbucks") or category (e.g., "coffee"). You can search near the current map location, or near your own location.
Directions.... Brings up the directions dialog. You can enter an address, and Snikkr will display the directions between you and that address. If you don't want to use your current location as the starting point, choose Advanced Directions instead. You can also enter the name of a contact, and Snikkr will fill in the address for that contact, if he or she has one.
Advanced Directions.... Brings up the advanced directions dialog. You can use this to get directions from anywhere to anywhere else.
Show Address.... Brings up the show address dialog, which allows you to enter an address. Snikkr will then center the map on that address. You can also enter the name of a contact, and Snikkr will fill in the address for that contact, if he or she has one.
Make Favorite.... Make the current map location or target into a favorite.

Results List. (If search results are being displayed) Brings up the results list.
Clear Results. (If search results are being displayed) Clears the search results and removes them from the map.
Next Results Page. (If search results are being displayed) Shows the next page of results. Closest results are always retured first, so subsequent pages will be further and further away.
Previous Results Page. (If search results are being displayed) Shows the previous page of results.

Next Result/Friend/Favorite/Direction. Centers the map on the next item in the list. You can change which list is current using the Navigation Mode... command.
Previous Result/Friend/Favorite/Direction. Centers the map on the previous item in the list. You can change which list is current using the Navigation Mode... command.
Show All/Complete Results/Friends/Favorites/Directions. Zooms the map out to display all the items in the list.
Navigation Mode.... Selects which list you want to navigate (with the Previous, Next, and Show All commands and shortcuts).

The following WiFi control commands are available on the BlackBerry versions of Snikkr
Bypass WiFi Here. This displays when you are on a WiFi network. If the WiFi network requires authentication (like the hotspot at a cafe), it may not work with Snikkr. If Snikkr does not seem to be working when you are on an unfamiliar WiFi network, this option will keep Snikkr from using that WiFi connection. This setting will only apply to the WiFi network you are on at the time, and only until you leave it. Once you switch to another WiFi network, Snikkr will automatically use WiFi again.
Use WiFi Here. Will only display if you have previously bypassed WiFi on the current WiFi network. Instructs Snikkr to once again make connections via WiFi.

Toggle Tracking Mode BlackBerry only. Toggles tracking mode between Off, When Out of Holster and Always. For more info, see the options screen.
Options. Displays the options screen, where you can change your profile, tracking and email options.
Logout. Log you out of Snikkr. You can still use some features of Snikkr Mobile, but will be unable to perform most operations that require a network connection to Snikkr, like directions and search.
